How Much Does OnlyFans Take From Tips and Subscriptions?

OnlyFans keeps 20% of everything, tips included. Here's what that means for your payouts, the tip limits fans hit, and when the money actually lands.

How Much Does OnlyFans Take From Tips and Subscriptions?

Direct answer: OnlyFans takes 20% of everything a creator earns, and tips are no exception. A $10 tip pays you $8. The same 20% comes off subscriptions, pay-per-view messages and custom content, so there is no stream where you keep more than 80%. The number creators actually feel is not the fee itself but what sits on top of it: tip caps, a holding period before money can be withdrawn, and the occasional chargeback that claws a payment back later.

We run the payout side for every account we manage, so the questions below are the ones that come up on real statements, not in theory.

The 20% fee, stream by stream

The platform fee is flat. OnlyFans does not charge a higher rate on tips, a lower one on subscriptions, or a discount for volume. Whatever a fan pays, 80% is credited to your balance and 20% goes to the platform to cover payment processing, hosting, support and the referral program. In practice:

  • Subscriptions: a $15 monthly sub credits $12.
  • Tips: a $25 tip credits $20.
  • Pay-per-view: a $30 PPV unlock credits $24.
  • Customs: a $100 custom credits $80.

Because the rate is identical everywhere, the fee should never decide which stream you push. Decide that on conversion and effort instead; our guide to how to make money on OnlyFans ranks the four streams by where the revenue actually comes from.

Do fans see the fee?

No. A fan is charged exactly the price you set. The 20% is deducted from your side, so it never appears as a separate line for them. This matters for pricing: if you want to net a specific amount from a tip menu item or a PPV, price it at that amount divided by 0.8. Netting $20 means charging $25.

Tip limits fans run into

OnlyFans caps how much a single fan can tip, both per transaction and per day, and the caps are lower for fans whose accounts are newer or who have only recently added a payment card. The limits rise with time and spending history. The practical effect is that a big spender cannot send one huge tip on day one; large amounts arrive as several tips over days, or through custom content priced to fit under the cap. When a fan says a tip "won't go through", the cap is usually why, and the fix is to offer a custom or a smaller tip now with the rest later, not to tell them to try again.

The exact figures change, so check the current limits in your creator settings rather than relying on numbers from an old thread.

When the money actually lands

Earnings do not go straight to your bank. They sit in a pending balance for a holding period first, which is a fraud-protection window while payments clear. For most countries that period is about a week; some regions are longer. After it clears, you can withdraw manually or set automatic payouts on a daily, weekly or monthly schedule, once your balance is above the minimum withdrawal threshold. New creators are often surprised that their first week's income is not withdrawable yet; that is normal, not a problem with the account.

Two things can reduce a payout after the fact: a chargeback, where a fan's bank reverses a payment and the amount is deducted from a later balance, and currency conversion if your bank account is not in US dollars. Chargebacks are the bigger one, and they are mostly preventable; we cover exactly how in OnlyFans chargebacks and refunds.

Is the 20% negotiable?

No, and be wary of anyone who says it is. The platform rate is the same for every creator regardless of size. What is negotiable is the second cut, if you work with an agency, which comes out of your 80%. That split is worth understanding properly before you sign anything; see what a fair OnlyFans agency commission looks like.

The fee is the one number on the platform you cannot change. Everything that decides your payout, from pricing to retention to chargebacks, is.

How an agency handles this for you

On the accounts we manage, payouts, chargeback rates and tip behavior are part of the weekly reporting, so a creator sees why a number moved rather than just that it did.
